CCP Marshals
Congratulations to Coldwater Community Picnic Grand Marshal
Every year we honor individuals who exemplify service to our community.
Robert Hibner & Don Luken
This year we celebrate our 65th year of our Community Picnic. We selected our theme to be “It Takes a Village”, as it truly does take an entire community to put on such a great event. Choosing a Grand Marshal was simple, we wanted to celebrate the people that were before us. The people who ran this picnic and kept it alive for 65 years. We thought the best way to honor that was to go back to the beginning , so this year we have selected Robert Hibner & Don Luken to represent our past committee members.
In 1961, Robert had the vision to put on a picnic for the community and presented it to Don Luken. Together they formed a committee that had their first official meeting at the former Betties Restaurant on August 2, 1961. The committee developed the first slogan, “The library is for the mind, the park is for the body.” All proceeds from every Coldwater Community Picnic since have been donated back to help fund projects for the library and park.
As Robert passed in 2008, we have asked his family members that have also served on the committee to stand in for him. These include; Bob Hibner, Joe Hibner, & Mike Hibner.
We can’t thank Robert & EVERY member that came after him enough for carrying on our favorite tradition!
We will see you all July 31st – August 3rd for this year’s 65th Coldwater Community Picnic.
